NEW PODCAST! LIBROS LIBRES: BOOKS ARE FREEDOM
If you read our post about Why You Must Save Colonia Library, then you know how important it is to keep the tiny public library which serves this farmworking community open. On June 18, 2019, as a result of donations, public outcry and activism, the city of Oxnard voted to keep the Colonia branch library open for ONE MORE YEAR. It's operating costs are under $27,000.
Yes, the library should really be funded by grants, but the city so far has failed to put grant funding in place. Efforts are currently underway to set up a Friends group to advocate for the branch and apply for grant funding, but these efforts take a great deal of time to yield results. The fact is, the Colonia Library NEEDS FUNDS NOW. As an author, podcast host and book lover, I've come up with what I think is the best way for me to help #SaveColoniaLibrary.
Introducing LIBROS LIBRES! A podcast about the books that elevate, provoke and unite us all.
We'll be discussing many of the books which will be stocked at the Little Free Library which we'll be opening later this summer, along with the rest of the artist community of Oxnard. But the purpose of the podcast is to save the Colonia Branch of the Public Library.
I am donating my time and resources to produce the podcast. Through Patreon subscriptions (available for as little as $2 a month) the listening audience can join a community committed to spreading literacy to the communities that need it most. 100% of the Patreon proceeds will be donated to keep the Colonia branch of the Oxnard Public Library OPEN.
